Obituary of Joan Drummond Humphreys

Joan Drummond Humphreys, age 91, a resident of Glenside, PA for 42 years, passed away on April 16, 2020. She was the devoted wife of the late Percival R. Humphreys, Jr. for 59 years.
Born in Hartford, CT, Joan was the daughter of the late John D. Drummond and the late Helen Klefus Drummond.
After graduating from Abington Friends High School in 1947, Joan continued her studies at Centenary College in New Jersey, earning an Associate's Degree in 1949. Joan had an extensive career in the banking business and was employed as a Prudential Consultant for AARP services in Fort Washington, PA, from where she retired in 1995.
Joan was a devoted mother, homemaker, grandmother and great-grandmother and was a member of the Jenkintown United Methodist Church for most of her life. In addition to being a greeter at the church, she volunteered in the Food Cupboard and was a member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. A talented seamstress, Joan sewed and replaced all the seat cushions at the Jenkintown United Methodist Church. She also labeled and repaired clothing at Wyncote Church Home for several years. Joan also had a small home-based business, Joan's Nip 'n Tuck, where she altered and hemmed countless garments for family and friends. She was also a member of the Abington Friends Alumni Association.
Joan is survived by her three children, Robert W. Humphreys of Holyoke, MA, James E. Humphreys (Elizabeth) of Ambler, PA and Susan Humphreys Driscoll of Annapolis, MD, four grandchildren, Scott Driscoll, Tracey Driscoll Thomas (Will), Andrew Humphreys and Katherine Humphreys Levy (Jeremy), and four great-grandchildren, Henry Driscoll, Hadley Driscoll, Cole Thomas and Jackson Thomas. She was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Drummond Pyle.
Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Jenkintown Food Cupboard, 328 Summit Avenue, Jenkintown, PA 19046.
