Uncle Andrew made holidays and family gatherings fun. He loved to play games and debate with me and other family members. Even when I was a small child he treated me as worthy of having a meaningful intellectual conversation with him. (See picture!) When I was about ten, he did some work on our house and would quiz me on math problems and taught me how to install a light switch, which was very empowering. He told me that I would like math if I got to the “higher math.” We had a running joke about who would finish college first. I won, but his mathematical accomplishments certainly outpaced mine. I feel sad that he did not get to his dream of becoming a professor, but I know that he did live a full and adventurous life. I miss him very much and know that our family gatherings will not be the same without him. Rachel N

Whenever Andrew visited us, he wanted to build or repair something. As a result of some of his projects we have a beautiful deck and ramp that is the envy of our neighbors, a heated floor and walk-in shower in our bathroom, and a modern light fixture in our kitchen. Andrew was a wonderful guest, non-complaining and non-demanding. He was an entertaining raconteur and could converse intelligently on an amazing variety of topic. We loved Andrew and will miss him greatly. Parents-in-law, Judy and Darrel Garner
