John Hodge Long, age 63, was born to Jack and Paula on March 31, 1960 in Abington, Pennsylvania. While John left us far too soon, the impact he left on those blessed to have been around him will be felt for years to come. John was a graduate and All-American from Abington Senior High School, Class of 1978. He went on to play baseball on a full scholarship for Guilford College until an unfortunate shoulder injury ended his career prematurely. Shortly thereafter, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served valiantly from January 1982 to October 1985. He served on the U.S.S. Pensacola (LSD-38) in Lebanon. While serving as a Machinist's Mate, John lead with great spirit and received Honors for his leadership in the engine room. John also received medals and/or ribbons while serving which included Navy Expeditionary Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Second Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Navy Battle Efficiency Ribbon. John will be missed deeply and survived by his daughter Ashley Burgos, his son-in-law Issac Burgos, granddaughter Gabriella Burgos, and grandson Issac Burgos Jr. He is also survived by his mother, Paula Long Arnold and her husband, Everett Arnold. Aside from his love for sports, John was a vigorous Christian and had immense passion for spiritual work. He was a lifelong member of Abington Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon. He went on to be the only male in the first Stephen Ministries class. John was a Jesus believer amongst all and pronounced it proudly! He entered heaven and was reunited with his father John Joseph Long and his brother Steven Curtis Long. Services were held privately.
