Obituary of Richard Andrew Cake
Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard Andrew Cake, age 65, a resident of Horsham, PA passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and his beloved wife, Barbara, on May 3, 2023 following a sudden medical event. Richard was the son of the late Benjamin F. Cake and the late Ruth Lohberg.
Richard, known as Ricky in his childhood, started his education at Gwynedd Mercy Academy, where he made his First Holy Communion. He attended Abington schools and Valley Forge Military Academy and graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in 1975. He attended Penn State University in Abington.
He was gifted with carpentry skills and crafted beautiful pieces of furniture. He had a knack for making his living spaces stand out. He loved cars and motorcycles. Many remember riding in one of his Corvettes or seeing him about town on his Harley-Davidson.
Richard and his wife Barbara were together for 27 years. They were totally devoted to each other. In fact, one was seldom seen without the other. Richard felt especially protective of his wife, daughter, step-daughter and granddaughter.
Richard had a robust heart and constantly showed his love to his family and friends. He made every family gathering an event with his jovial spirit! He was always just a phone call away, ever ready to help people solve problems or meet their needs. He is also remembered for his sense of humor and the ways he could imitate others and make everyone laugh heartily. During his father's final years, Richard and his wife moved in, and Richard went above and beyond in the detailed care he took of his dad's every need.
An animal lover, Richard grew up in a household of dogs, cats, frogs, turtles, fish, even ducks in the basement one Easter. He especially adored his dog Thor and most recently his cat Simba.
In addition to his devoted wife, Richard is survived by daughter, Courtney Esposito; granddaughter Giana Esposito; step-daughter Breeanna Zawistowski; brothers James (Susan) and Mark Cake; sister, Lynn Cake Dahl (Douglas); cousin Rosemary Hinkle (Alan), and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 15, 2023, Helweg & Rowland Funeral Home, 1500 Old York Road, Abington, where relative and friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
