Obituary of Ruth Westberg Abel

Ruth Westberg Abel, age 91, passed away peacefully under hospice care on March 25, 2020, at Freedom Village in Coatesville, PA, where she resided almost 20 years. Her husband, George J. Abel Jr., died in 2008. Ruth grew up in Summit, NJ, but married life took her first to Watchung, NJ, and then to Spring Lake, NJ, where she and her husband owned and operated the Normandy Hotel for 20 years. They retired to Vermont for 15 years before moving to Freedom Village. Ruth was a deacon in her church, a member of P.E.O., enjoyed playing bridge and Scrabble, knitting squares for blankets that were given to comfort folks in assisted care, and celebrating life with her eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her daughters, Linda (Abel) Hultgren and husband Roger, Georgene (Abel) Pilling and husband Chad, and son Thomas G. Abel and wife Cathy. A Memorial Service will be held in Watchung, NJ, at a later date. In her memory, please do a kindness for our brave health care workers and first responders.
