Obituary of Robert Calder Holmes, III
Robert Calder Holmes, III, age 71, a 15-year resident of Ambler, PA and formerly of Flourtown, PA died on August 30, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth "Penny" Pack Holmes for 49 years.
Born in Philadelphia PA, Rob was the son of the late Robert Calder Holmes, Jr. and the late Frances Schofield Holmes.
He graduated from Abington High School in 1963 and in 1967 earned his degree in English from Penn State University, where he became a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and served as their President.
Rob worked for 47 years as a Financial Advisor. He founded ESI - Estate Strategies Inc. (formerly The Holmes Group). He was a member of AALU (Assoc. Advanced Life Underwriting) and he held several industry designations - CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter), ChFC (Chartered Financial Consultant) and AEP (Advanced Estate Planner). Additionally, he was a member of the Penn Mutual Hall of Fame.
Rob enjoyed Penn State athletics, especially football and lacrosse, where he and Penny have endowed a Men's Lacrosse Scholarship in their names.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving sons and their spouses; Robert C., IV and Denise R. Holmes, William P. "Buck" and Allison R. Holmes and Edward G. "Ted" and Emily M. Holmes, by 10 grandchildren and by his sisters, Mally H. Wilkinson and Wendy Holmes-Pearson.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wed. Sept. 13, 2017, St. Thomas' Church Whitemarsh, Bethlehem Pike and Camphill Road, Ft. Washington, where friends will be received from 9:45 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
