Natalie L. "Nancie" MacBain, a resident of Foulkeways at Gwynedd and formerly of Abington died on January21, 2011. She was the beloved daughter of the late Estelle Collins MacBain and the late Howard MacBain. Nancie graduated from Jenkintown High School in 1942 and later in 1944 from Colby Junior College, now Colby Sawyer College, in New Hampshire. She had also studied at Temple University. Nancie began her 33-year career as Director of Volunteer Services of Abington Memorial Hospital in 1957. She had developed the first volunteer pre-med program providing hands-on-experiences, a program that was co-sponsored by the Director of Medical Education of Abington Memorial Hospital. She served on the committees to develop the American Society of Directors of Volunteer Services and served as their third President. She also helped in the development of the Pennsylvania Society of Directors of Volunteer Services and served as their fourth President. Nancie served on the board of the National Center for Volunteer Action. She had also written and published numerous articles in various professional journals. As a dedicated volunteer, Nancie had, throughout her lifetime, given of her time and talents to the Emergency Ward at Abington Memorial Hospital, American Red Cross, to the recreation hall and psychiatric units of the US Naval Hospital and with the Reach to Recovery Program of the American Cancer Society. She also volunteered at Abington Free Library and served as a Garden Judge for the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. While living at Foulkeways, Nancie had served on many committees and was a volunteer with the hospice program. Nancie was a long-time and dedicated member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Abington. She also served as Assistant Chairperson of the Episcopal Diocese National Convention. A gifted golfer, Nancie achieved a 10 handicap. She was extremely thankful for her relationship with her many friends both locally and throughout six states and in England. Friends are invited to attend her memorial service which will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 28, 2011 in St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Old Welsh and Old York Roads, Abington. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 2119 Old Welsh Road, Abington, PA 19001 or to Abington Memorial Hospital Foundation, 1200 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001. Arrangements were by Baron Rowland Funeral Home, Abington. Pennsylvania.
