Obituary of Frank Arcturus Wood, Jr.

Frank Arcturus Wood, Jr., a long-time resident of Wyncote, PA, died peacefully, at his home, on June 14, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Nancy Landis Wood for 72 years. Born and raised in Conshohocken, PA, he was the son of the late Frank Arcturus Wood, Sr. and the late Mary Lindsay Wood. Frank graduated from Conshohocken High School in 1937. Frank met his wife, Nancy while he was studying History – Social Sciences at Ursinus College, from where he graduated as valedictorian in 1941. They were married May 6, 1944. Frank then served in the US Navy during WWII and in the Korean Conflict. Once his deployment ended, Frank returned home to Nancy. After his discharge from the Navy, Frank went to work at Provident National Bank. After 45 years, Frank retired as a Vice-President in the Trust Department. He served on the board of Pennsylvania Warehousing & Safe Deposit; South Chester Tube and Presbyterian Children's Village. He also was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church. Together the Woods embarked on an active retirement. They could be found playing tennis, enjoying the beaches of Stone Harbor, NJ and occasionally traveling on river cruises through Europe. They would also take annual trips with the four grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by his loving children: Nancy Mayes of Center Valley; Sandra Wilkes of Alpharetta, GA, David Wood of Wyncote; by four grandchildren: Karen, Jay, Stacy and Stephen and by eight great-grandchildren: Caeley, Mara, Jimmy, Alison, Billy, Austin, Victor and Noam. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 217 Fernbrook Avenue, Wyncote, where friends will be received after the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Calvary Presbyterian Church, 217 Fernbrook Avenue, Wyncote, PA 19095 or to Ursinus College, 601 E.
