Mrs Udell taught me when I did my minor in Spanish at Beaver, graduating in 1991. She ensured I completed my minor by running a special independent study for myself and one other student on the Mexican Revolution. It was a great class, taught in her office often, and we had a tremendous amount of personal attention and support. I remember she stopped me in the hallway and encouraged me to do the course. She personified what is so special about Beaver/Arcadia, in her great love of her discipline and her exemplary ability to impart this love to her students. Although I studied abroad in England (English was my major), she encouraged me to visit a Spanish-speaking country as well and I did go to southern Spain and learned more about literature and culture there and brought that knowledge back into the study of my minor. She was a fantastic professor. I will never forget her.

I had the priviledge to know both Anita and Gene as one of my 1st Critter Sitter customers with their beloved cat "Tino". Not only did they welcome me into their home but also their family. I remember both of them to be so welcoming to me when I bought our 1st son to visit their lovely home.To read Anita's rich history is to know her even better. What a wonderful legacy Anita and Gene have left .

i was honored to know Anita both professionally and personally and found her to be a remarkable woman. Brilliant, compassionate, and cosmopolitan, she was highly respected by her colleagues and loved by her students. Her contributions to the language teaching profession and community will be among her most important legacies.
May the fond memories of the good times you shared comfort ou in the difficult days ahead.

What an amazing, accomplished woman, who contributed to the world around her, touching many lives and leaving a legacy of giving to others. I wish I had known her. I do have the privilege of her daughter Ruth's friendship, and for that I am grateful. Clearly, Ruth is very like her mother, possessed of a keen intellect, a love of languages and travel and a desire to make the world a better place. So in a way, I do have personal knowledge of Anita, through her daughter. My sympathies to the family. Your mom/ grandmother made a difference, and I believe that is a consolation during this hard time

I remember Anita well during the years she was chair. Of c
ourse, she was a strong advocate for language requirements. The need to change the French major to a minor was a difficult time and she made a hard decision to do the right thing. When I was a young professor, she always had seemed to me to know all the right answers.
In a small community, we knew spouses and children, so my heartfelt sympathy goes to Jon and Ruth.
