Harry C. Rotenbury, of the Philadelphia Protestant Home/Abington, died unexpectedly on August 22, 2010. He was the husband of the late Anne D. Rotenbury. He is survived by his brother Earl and Joan Rotenbury and his sister-in-law Betty Rotenbury. He is also survived by his daughters; Carol Delville of San Jose CA , Julia and James Roman of Lancaster , PA , Sandy Steinmetz, of Abington , PA and his granddaughter Erica Delville of San Jose , CA. Harry was married to the late Anne D. Rotenbury of Abington for 38 years and shared a life which he treasured. He was from Frankford, Philadelphia where he was raised by his Aunt and was from a family of 4 brothers, Wilfred, Albert, Charles, and Earl. His cherished his family and was a devoted brother throughout his life. Harry graduated from Frankford High School in 1940 and from The Wharton Evening School in 1950. He worked for CIGNA in Management for 39 years and retired to Abington in 1986. He proudly served the in the military in the U S Navy Armed Guard from 1942-1946 in WW II as a signalmen, and was part of the "Murmansk Run" when merchant ships steamed into the stormy Arctic with supplies for the Russian front. Harry's devotion and loyalty were expressed in the length of his commitments and his passion for service to his faith and community. He was a faithful member of Abington Presbyterian Church for more than 48 years, serving as an elder, a deacon and a hospital chaplain. Here he founded the Abington Singles Club where he met his wife, Anne, and was also a member of the Come Doubles Club including serving as President.Harry was active volunteer for many years including 78 years in the Boy Scouts of America, as a scouter since 1934, and serving in the Cradle of Liberty Council of the BSA as Executive Board member for 32 years. Harry was also active in the Masons, serving as a member Bray Lodge,F&AM, Shepherds Unit. As part of Lulu Shrine he served in as President of the Shepard's Club, Twice President of the Montgomery County Shrine Club, and Chairman of the Annual Masonic Breakfast for 18 years. Harry was also one of the Founders of LuLu Scouting program. He also served as an active volunteer for the Philadelphia Shriners Hospital for Children. Harry was the founder of the Ambassador program at the tour guides and greeters. He was an active member of the US Navy league of the SE PA Council including the role of President. His hobbies included Reading, Writing, Public Speaking and Community Service.His memorial service will be held 10:45 AM (Masonic Service) 11:00 AM (Church Service) on Saturday, August 28th, Abington Presbyterian Church, Old York and Susquehanna Roads, Abington, where friends will be received from 10 AM. until the time of the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Road , Abington , PA 19001 , the Boy Scouts of America or the Children's Shiners Hospital of Philadelphia.
