WALTER LAWRENCE "LARRY" COE, JR., age 76, a resident of Spring House Estates in Lower Gwynedd and a former 43-year resident of Roslyn, died on December 19, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Donna Jean Heller Coe for 50 years. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Walter Lawrence Coe, Sr. and the late Helen C. Pinkerton Coe. Larry graduated from Germantown High School in 1955. He earned his certificate from the American Bankers Association in 1961 and he later, in 1967, earned his Associates Degree in Business from Temple University and a Bachelor of Science from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. Larry always had a desire for knowledge and education. In 1974, he received his certification from the International Business Machines Corporation Data Processing Division for Assembly Language and Productivity Techniques and in 1976 his PC/3600 certification. In 1979, he earned his additional degree from Brown University Graduate School of Banking, from where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Larry served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was stationed in Japan and was honorably discharged in 1962. Larry spent his 43-year banking and computer programming career with Germantown Savings Bank in Bala Cynwyd. He retired in 1996 as Vice President of Information Systems. He was a 50-year Master Mason of Pennsylvania and member of Cassia Mt. Horeb Lodge No..273 F&AM Larry was involved in his community and volunteered with the Roslyn Town Watch as Patroller from 1977-2013. He was the recipient of the Roslyn Town Watch Silent Strength Award and Roslyn Town Watch Town Watcher of the Year Award. In recognition of his work with Roslyn Town Watch, he received Certificates of Achievement from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1998 and from the Senate in 2001. Larry received the Governor's Award for Crime Prevention in 1998. He also volunteered with the Boy Scouts, Roslyn Boys Club and was a Political Committeeman. He received the Community Public Safety Achievement Award in 1988. He was long-time member and former Assistant Business Manager of Abington Presbyterian Church, where he was also a Deacon and Elder. He served on the Church's Mission Council, Stewardship Council and Building and Grounds Committee. Larry was an avid reader. He enjoyed classical music, traveling, cruising and movie watching. In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his dear children; Mary Elizabeth Coe and Peter Heller Coe both of Moton, PA and by his sister, Nora Ann Nugent of Cambra, PA and by his brother, Daniel Edward Coe of Lansdale, PA . A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 28, 2013, Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Road, Abington, where friends will be received from 1:00 until the time of the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to March of Dimes, 1019 West 9th Ave, King of Prussia, PA, 19406.
