SHIRLEY VIOLA JACKSON TOMKINSON, age 91, a resident of Normandy Farms Estates for the past eight years and a former long-time resident of Abington died on October 9, 2013. She was the devoted wife of the late Walter S. Tomkinson for 60 years until his death in 2007.
Born in Abington, she was the daughter of the late Edmond Earl Jackson and the late Elsie Mae Lockart Jackson. She was preceded in death by her sister, Muriel Marino and by her brothers, Edmund "Tony" Earle Jackson, Jr. and Ned Jackson.
Shirley graduated from Abington High School and later attended Pierce Business School. She served on the Reunion Committee of the Abington High School Class of 1939.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She worked for The Women's Exchange in Jenkintown.
Shirley was a member of Abington Civic Club and was a member of The Treasure Questers.
She was a Member of Abington Presbyterian Church for more than 60-years, where she volunteered as the Pre-school Librarian and served on the Tapestry Committee.
Shirley enjoyed knitting, needlework, gardening and reading.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Cavallero and her husband, Rev. James Cavallero of Lancaster, PA; by her son, Scott Tomkinson and his wife, Debbie of Wescoesville, PA; by her grandchildren, Karl W. Schneck, Matthew S. Schneck, and Ryan S. Tomkinson and by her great-grandchildren, Anthony and Lincoln Schneck.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 21, 2013, Auditorium of Normandy Farms Estates, 9000 Twin Silo Drive, Blue Bell, where friends will be received after the service. Interment in the Memorial Gardens of Abington Presbyterian Church will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001.
