Obituary of William Ray Lyman

WILLIAM RAY LYMAN, age 93, a resident of Spring House Estates in Ambler, PA for the past 21 years and a former 37-year resident of Abington, PA died on October 2, 2013. He was the devoted husband of the late Vera Petersen Lyman for 59 years until her death in 2004.
Born in Stratton, VT, he was the son of the late Ray Eugene Lyman and the late Mary Ellen Griffith Lyman.
Bill earned his degree in Chemistry from the University of Vermont in 19 41. He later, in 1944, earned his Master's degree in Organic Chemistry from Columbia University and his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1947.
Bill was a Research Chemist and early in his career had worked from 1944-1946 in Oak Ridge, TN on the Manhattan Project during the war. His entire 35-year career was with Rohm & Haas.
Bill enjoyed hiking and camping.
He was a member of Willow Grove Baptist Church for many years.
He is survived by his loving children and their spouses; Ray and Linda Lyman of Export, PA, Chris Lyman and Sam Gattuso of South Londonderry, VT, Vera and Fletcher Lane of Eagleville, PA and Philip Lyman and Lynnette Bechard of Boulder, CO; by six grandchildren and a great-grandchild and by his brother, Ona Lyman and his wife Rose of Aberdeen, MD. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ellen and by his brother, David and by two great-grandchildren, Jack Lyman and Evelyn Ananda.
Memorial service will be held a 11:00 AM on Monday, October 7, 2013, Auditorium of Spring House Estates, 728 Norristown Road, Ambler, PA 19002, where friends will be received from 10:30 until the time of the service. Burial will be private.
