Raymond Wilson McNamee, Jr., Ph.D., of Maple Glen, formerly of Horsham, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 5, 2013 after a battle with cancer. He was 78. Born in Charleston, West Virginia, Ray was the son of Raymond Wilson, Sr. and Edith (Irwin) McNamee. After graduating from high school, Ray went on to undergraduate studies at Northwestern University. After serving in the Navy for 3 years, he attended graduate school at the University of California at Berkley, culminating in a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Ray was a long standing member of Abington Presbyterian Church, serving in several capacities. Ray had a keen interest in politics, economics and magic. He loved tennis and table tennis, participating in both the PA State and World Senior Games in Table Tennis. He will be remembered by his friends and family for his enthusiasm, intelligence and humor. Ray is survived by his wife Ann (Nugen) of 54 years, his daughter Grace Bruen and husband Mark of Harleysville, son Keith McNamee and wife Shelley of Harleysville, daughter Nancy Woehrle and husband Lawrence of Wyncote, and his brother Philip McNamee, M.D. and wife Carol of Honolulu, Hawaii. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Allison Bruen of Lansdale, PA, Benjamin Bruen of Washington, DC and Lauren, Roger, Kevin and Grace Woehrle, all of Wyncote, PA. Ray's memorial service will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Abington Presbyterian Church, Old York and Susquehanna Roads, Abington, PA. The family will greet guests at a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray's name may be made to the Abington Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund, 1082 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001.
