Obituary of Alice Wood Hart

Alice Minerva Wood Hart died June 25, 2012 in Allentown Pennsylvania at the age of 94 years. She was the daughter of Stanley Victor Wood Sr. and Kathleen Tuck Spalding born October 28, 1917. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years Edwin Sipler Hart, Jr. and a brother S. Victor Wood, Jr. She was employed at Miss Dutton's Tea Room Providence RI, the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and the Germantown Hospital and Dispensary.
She is survived by a brother, Charles R. Wood; a son, Dr. Edwin S. Hart, III and his wife Karen L.; a daughter Alice Emily Hart Hughes and her husband Harry L. Hughes; three grandchildren, Charles Stanley Hughes, Edwin Sipler Hart, IV and Natalie Sara Hart, and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hart was a graduate of the Myers High School in Wilkes-Barre, Keystone Junior College and Miss Farmer's School of Cooking.
In this the 100th year of Girl Scouting in America, she was one of the oldest living Golden Eaglets having earned the award in 1935. Active in whatever community she resided she volunteered as a Red Cross nurses aid in World War II, taught vacation Bible School and Sunday school, volunteered for the Finletter Home and School Association. Mrs. Hart was the Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Kensington-Kadosh Commandary #54 Knights Templar. Her greatest achievement and source of pride were her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Hart was a life long Episcopalian and was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She had been more recently attending the Cathedral Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem, PA.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 2, 2012, The Episcopal Church of our Saviour, Old York and Homestead Roads, Jenkintown, PA, where relatives and friends will be received from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, PA.
