Obituary of Elizabeth B. Scheibner
Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Betty Benham Scheibner, age 83, a resident of Normandy Farms Estates in Blue Bell, died peacefully on May 10, 2010 with her family by her side.
She was born in Philadelphia on February 10, 1927 to Elsie and Robert Benham; Betty attended Germantown High School and then graduated from Ursinus College. While teaching in Philadelphia she met and married her husband of 57 years, Harry Scheibner. Betty started her career as an elementary teacher in the Philadelphia School District and later spent many years as a preschool teacher at the United Methodist Church of Glenside.
Betty was an active member at Abington Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder, co-chaired the Chancel Guild with her husband and was secretary of Presbyterian Women. She served as President of the Weldon House Questers, was a member of the PEO Sorority as well as the Abington Civic Club.
In addition to her devoted husband Harry, Betty is survived by her two daughters, Betsy MacNiven and her husband Brian of Thunder Bay, ON, Canada and Sue Salmon and her husband Bill of Ambler, PA. One of her greatest joys was time shared with her five grandchildren, Chris, Lesley, Emily, Katie and Kim. She delighted in spending summers in Ocean City, N.J., rocking on her porch on Asbury Avenue.
Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Abington Presbyterian Church, Old York and Susquehanna Roads, Abington. Friends will be received after the service. Burial in the Memorial Gardens of Abington Presbyterian Church will be private. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Montgomery County SPCA, 19 E. Ridge Pike, P.O. Box 222, Conshohocken, PA 19428-0222 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
