JEAN COOPER POLK, a twelve year resident of Normandy Farms Estates, Blue Bell and formerly of Jenkintown passed from this life on June 5, 2012. She was 89. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late David S. and Mary Fleming Cooper of Mt. Lebanon. Her husband of 56 years, William Harris Polk, preceded her in death on April 25, 2009 Jean graduated from Taylor-Allerdice High School, Regent Square, PA in 1940; Oberlin College Conservatory of Music majoring in instrumental music education in 1944; and completed her graduate studies at The University of Michigan in 1946, majoring in the bassoon. She taught instrumental music in the Bellaire School District, Bellaire, OH; Mt. Lebanon School District, Mt. Lebanon, PA; and Cheltenham School District, Elkins Park, PA. Jean played the violin in the Old York Road Symphony Orchestra for many years, and served on the Board of Directors as the organization's corresponding secretary. Jean was a faithful member of Grace Presbyterian Church, Jenkintown and Oreland Presbyterian Church, Oreland, serving as deacon at the former. Jean enjoyed attending orchestra concerts, listening to classical music on the radio, reading, bible study and walking. Mrs. Polk is survived by her three children; Elizabeth Lurena Polk of Conshohocken, PA Carolyn Polk Rock of Cave Creek, AZ and William Roswell Polk of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A private service and burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ambler. Memorial gifts may be made to Cornerstone Christian Academy, P.O.
