Harry A. Scheibner Jr., a resident of Normandy Farms Estates in Blue Bell, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012. He was 88 years old. He was the beloved husband of the late Betty Benham Scheibner, who died in 2010. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Harry Sr. and the late Anna Jewel Scheibner. Harry attended Olney High School and obtained his undergraduate degree from Temple University. He then went on to receive his graduate degree was from the University of Pennsylvania. An educator for over 40 years, Harry began his long, distinguished career with the Philadelphia School District starting out as a teacher and later becoming a principal. He became a principal in the Cheltenham School District in the 1960's at the Shoemaker and Myers Elementary schools and retired from the Elkins Park Middle School. Harry was an active member at Abington Presbyterian Church. The church was always the focus of his time and talent. Harry served as an elder, a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and was the chairman of many councils and committees. He was also involved in many community service organizations such as, the Lions Club, Kiwanis, and was a member of the Rotary Club of Jenkintown. His exemplary life and career are a testament to his beliefs. Harry enjoyed summers in Ocean City, NJ with his family, riding his bike on the boardwalk and swimming in the ocean. A sports enthusiast, he loved the Philadelphia Phillies and other hometown teams. Harry is survived by his two daughters, Betsy MacNiven and her husband Brian, of Thunder Bay, ON, Canada and Sue Salmon and her husband Bill of Ambler, PA. , and by his brother Robert Scheibner. One of his greatest joys was time shared with his five grandchildren, Chris, Lesley, Emily, Katie and Kim. A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Rd., Abington. Friends will be received following the service. Burial in the memorial gardens of Abington Presbyterian Church will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Rd., Abington, PA 19001.
