Obituary of Joseph Robert Sommer

Joseph Robert "Bob" Sommer, age 81, of Spring House Estates, died on February 21, 2012. He was the devoted husband of Janet R. Sommer for 56 years.
Born in West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph G. Sommer and the late Susanna Redheffer Sommer.
Bob graduated from Central High School's 189th Class in 1948. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Temple University in 1952.
He proudly served as First Lieutenant with the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954. While employed with Fidelity Philadelphia Trust Company, he graduated from Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Bob also worked for Meridian Bank, which is now Wells Fargo, until his retirement.
Bob was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Friendship Lodge #400. He loved baseball, the Phillies, coin collecting and painting.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey R. Sommer (Lisa), his daughter, Linda Sommer Jephson (John), and by his five grandchildren, Christie, Jack, Matthew, Alexander and Andrew.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012 at Baron Rowland Funeral Home, 1059 Old York Road, Abington, where friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Good Samaritan Fund at Spring House Estates, Attn: Tracy Shelton, 728 Norristown Road, Lower Gwynedd, PA 19002.
