Obituary of Gilda Benner

Gilda Frances Benner, 97, passed away on March 20, 2026. Born on October 6, 1928, in Philadelphia, PA., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Passerini. Gilda lived a long and meaningful life defined by love, faith, and devotion to her family.

A loving and dedicated wife of 50 years to the late Robert Wesley Benner with whom she raised five children with strength and care. She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses, Judith and Mark Edwards, Evelyn Szuchyt, Janet Benner and Elaine and Stephen Gualtieri. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Robert Joseph Benner, in 2008, a loss she carried with grace and resilience. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Jamie Szuchyt and Erica and Nick Agneta, who brought her great pride and joy.Gilda was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Thomas and Joseph Passerini.

Gilda was a member of the Oreland Presbyterian Church. She carried Christian values throughout her life, shaping the woman so many came to admire and cherish.

Known for her strong work ethic, Gilda was a woman who gave her all in everything she did. She will be especially remembered for her delicious, homemade pasta gravy, a tradition that brought family together and created lasting memories around the table.

A woman of deep faith, Gilda had a strong belief in the Lord that guided her throughout life. Even in her final days, she remained sharp-minded and steadfast, a testament to her enduring spirit.

Gilda's legacy is one of love, perseverance, and unwavering devotion to family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved her.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 26, 2026, Helweg & Rowland Funeral Home, 1500 Old York Road, Abington where relatives and friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
