Obituary of Mary Louise Treese

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Louise "Lou" Treese of Glenside, PA, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, just 11 days before her 90th birthday. Lou was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always emphasized the importance of family. Born in Wilmington, DE on June 21, 1935, to the late Dominic Tartaglia and Elizabeth Bowers, and lovingly raised by her adoptive parents, the late Paul and Mary Sheridan of Wilmington DE. She attended St. Elizabeth's High School and remained active in her class alumni association enjoying many events with her lifelong classmates and friends. Lou retired from her career as a medical secretary and devoted much of her life to community and service. She was a member of St. Luke's Parish, an active member of the Weldon House Questers Organization, served many years as a Girl Scout leader, and was a proud supporter of the Abington Galloping Ghosts athletics. Lou found joy in many of life's simple pleasures, including her love of horticulture and gardening, birding, baking for friends and family, and spending time with her many wonderful friends. Her warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Gerald E. Treese, her sister Helen Sheridan Granger and brothers Paul Sheridan and Robert E. Bowers. Lou was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She's survived by her three daughters and their families, and many adored nieces and nephews. Loving mother of Elayne Treese and husband Harry Schmidt and their daughters Caitlin and Megan (Michael). Her daughter Linda Treese and husband John Stump and their children Lillian and Jack Stump. Youngest daughter Nancy Treese, and her children Lindsay, Nevin and Janelle Baer. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren Charlie, Cecilia, and Josephine Arcidiacono. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Lou's memory with one of her favorite ways to share love and connection with those closest to her: "take a friend to lunch." And we know she would encourage all of us to keep one of her favorite sayings in our hearts, "don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Friends and relatives are invited to attend a visitation and service celebrating Lou's life on Thursday June 19, 2025, at Helweg & Rowland Funeral Home, 1500 Old York Road, Abington, PA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, prior to the service at 11:00 AM. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a luncheon following the service.
