Obituary of Norton Ayoub

Please share a memory of Norton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Norton Ayoub, widower of Rose Ayoub who passed 36 days ago, exemplifies how "two hearts beat as one." Having dated Rose since 1949 and having married her in 1955, the beating of his heart ended on March 12, 2025, shortly after Rose's did. At the time of his death he was a resident of Southampton Estates. Norty was born in Philadelphia on November 20, 1932, the third child of Jirius (George) and Marie Ayoub, immigrants in the 1920s to the United States from present-day Palestine. Norty and his siblings learned from an early age to put their faith in God, to be devoted to their country, and that hard work accomplishes much. From the time he was very young, Norton worked hard, starting with delivering groceries for A&P by wagon when he was yet a school boy. Norty graduated from Dobbins Technical Institute in Philadelphia which propelled his career in the automotive industry. He enlisted in the United States Naval Reserves where he served his country for 9 ½ years. During the time while he was serving his country and working his way through the ranks in the automotive industry, he married on June 4, 1955 the love of his life, Rose (McNally), saved enough to purchase their first home in Rockledge, and had their first two children. He worked at Rohrer Chevrolet and Lafferty Chevrolet, and added their last two children to their family. He ultimately attained the position of Service Manager for Stockburger Chevrolet and then Potamkin Chevrolet. Those who knew Norty can well envision how being in charge of an entire department of workers well suited his personality, and how those positive attributes ultimately benefitted each and every customer. Norton was a member of the United Methodist Church his entire life, first Logan UMC, then Fox Chase UMC, and finally Huntingdon Valley UMC. To add to the legacy of his upbringing, Norty added the legacy of the importance of family. He loved nothing more than being with his family, although his sweet tooth might, just might, have run a close second! His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren can still picture him sitting at the head of the table for loving family gatherings where he was surrounded by those who meant the most to him and, placed directly in front of him was always the pièce de resistance, one of Rose's home baked desserts. Norton was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; his parents; two of his siblings – Helen Adair and Nelson Ayoub, and a great grandson, Warren. A loyal and loving legacy he leaves to his children: Barbara Wojciechowski, George (Elizabeth) Ayoub, Joseph (Linda) Ayoub, and Linda (Mark) Bernhauser. He is survived by five siblings: Joanne Moyer, Raymond (Marge) Ayoub, Yvonne Bockman, Anita (Glen) Esler, William (Anne) Ayoub. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Andrew Adair and sister-in-law Anita Ayoub, and numerous nieces and nephews. Whether one called him Dad, Grandpop, Brother, Uncle, or even Norty, each will miss his jovial and helpful nature. And in his abode of heavenly rest, his heavenly heart can beat again as one with that of his dear Rose. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 21, 2025, Huntingdon Valley United Methodist Church, 3470 Huntingdon Pike, Huntingdon Valley, PA, where friends will be received from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to DeMolay - Reading Chapter, 400 S. 7th Avenue, Reading, PA 19611.
